It seems as though Yahoo’s on some sort of buying spree – first blo.gs and now Konfabulator. The good news of this recent purchase is that the software is now free.
If you have no idea what konfabulator is, it’s software developed for Windows and Mac which allows you to place different widgets on your desktop. The widgets range from calenders and notepads to cpu monitors and weather reports.
Being a konfabulator trial user myself and nearly getting ready to fork out the dough, this came as very welcome news. If you did happen to purchase konfabulator 2.0 or later, you will be receiving a refund. The details are sketchy, but I think Yahoo’s good for it.
You can read about it all at the konfabulator homepage.
It seems like just a week ago that Mozilla released Firefox 1.0.5, but despite the date, there is a new version available as well as a new version of Thunderbird.
The release notes say these updates are for security and stability respectively, however, I think they just wanted to have same version numbers for each applications.
Well, either way – go ahead and grab your copy of the latest verions of Firefox and Thunderbird
A new version of Firefox has been released which provides some security fixes. You can read the release notes from Mozilla and you can download the new version from Get Firefox.
Okay, I need to admit that I’m not an avid Yahoo! user although I have a user ID so my clients can IM me if necessary and I do subscribe to the news feed, but I had no idea that Yahoo! even had a toolbar for Firefox.
But, BetaNews.com reported that just a day after Google’s own toolbar for Firefox release, Yahoo! refreshed theirs:
“Yahoo’s Firefox toolbar replicates many of the features it already offers customers using Microsoft’s Internet Explorer Web browser such as an integrated search box, content discovery, a RSS subscription manager, protection against spyware and server-side preferences that can be recalled from any PC connected to the Internet.”
I’ve already installed and have been testing the new Google toolbar for Firefox for the last couple of days and there are some noteable differences between it and the Googlebar plugin (as well as the Firefox PR plugin – specifically how the PR data is collected).
The Yahoo! toolbar for Firefox integrates with many of the Yahoo! network features such as the My Yahoo! hub for mail, watch lists, news, etc. and the toolbar can give you one click access.
Since I’m just now catching wind of this and I’m a Firefox extension collect-o-holic, I will most likely be downloading the toolbar to compare and contrast the uses and functionality, then report back later with my findings.
